- Author Linda Fischer to speak at 92Y and Hungarian National Day of Tourism
- Presentations on The Memory Book: One Woman's Self-Discovery in the Mist of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy
- A romantic past recalled
Linda Fischer, author of The Memory Book: One Woman's Self-Discovery in the Mist of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy will be speaking at 92Y and the Hungarian National Day of Tourism. The Hungarian National Day of Tourism will be held at the Hungarian Consulate in New York City on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 and is only open to professionals in the travel industry. The 92Y talk will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 at noon. Tickets can be purchased at the 92Y.
Both presentations will take a sweeping look at the discovery of the times and the people captured in a memory book at the turn of the twentieth century. That period is long lost to even those in Europe but it was revealing and compelling, inspiring the author's travels in this century. The memory book was a small volume produced for a young girl, which tells of an age of happiness and also undeniable tragedy.
“We can learn a great deal by looking at small things,” said author Linda Fischer. “The more I looked at this pebble of a memory, the more I saw eternity bubbling up.”
The Memory Book was inspired by the author’s discovery of a personal keepsake album in 2005, which prompted her to research the historical circumstances of its creator with help from people from around the world. The book is a great way to learn about European history: the narrative rests on the story of author's travels, while exploring the last 150 years of social changes in Europe. Following the Q&A at 92Y talk, there will be a cream cake tasting with a coffee and tea service provided by Minted Prose.
