Sled Dog Dachshund author Laura Atkins recently took time to catch up with The Launch Pad, the MFA in Writing for Children’s & Young Adults Author Blog of Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), Laura’s alma mater. She graduated from VCFA in January 2016.

Laura spoke in detail about the picture book process, from concept through editorial. “I was used to being the one giving the feedback and suggestions,” said Atkins, a veteran editor with more than 25 years’ experience in children’s books. “It’s given me far more empathy for how challenging the writing side can be!”

In addition, Laura shared information on her supportive writing community and how attending VCFA affected her writing life.
