• The Memory Book selected for national read in June and July

The Memory Book: One Woman's Self-Discovery in the Mist of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy has been selected by Wanderful, a global sisterhood of women travelers, as the June-July selection for its book club. This will allow city chapters from all over the world to engage in a communal discussion of the themes in The Memory Book. The Memory Book recounts the discovery of a century old memory book in an antique store in Budapest by a New York woman. The story connects the author with a global community, contemporary New York, and the tumult of the early twentieth century as WWI erupts.

The author, Linda Fischer, will be providing a Twitter chat and a live presentation to the New York City chapter of Wanderful. Her goal is to allow women nationally to engage in the personalities and the times of The Memory Book as well as its implications for them now.

“The world has lost so much in twentieth century wars. For all of its faults, the grandeur of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy—once a quarter of a million miles in the center of Europe with 50 million inhabitants—lay at the backdrop for so many lives, including the owner of the memory book,” said Fischer. “And as we travel, the faded grandeur opens to the enlightened eye. It isn't just my tour. It’s every person’s tour to see the shadow behind the present. The carriages are gone but not the dreams.”
